Question #3:

why are politicians panicking the markets by threatening to let the BIG 3 go under ? didn't they learn from...?

LEHMEN BROTHERS
I CANNOT BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE

Question #4:

How can we promote our animal rescue?

I work with a new animal rescue. We aren't a shelter, but get animals that are going to be euthanized and place them in foster homes until they can be adopted. We have a website and advertise on Craig's List. I'm just not sure what other ways I could suggest we market ourselves to let people in our area check us out before they adopt.

Question #5:

I rent my parents house and they are being "petty"?

Here's the situation.. My parents couldn't sell there house when they wanted to retire. So, to help them they set the rent at $650 and we basically "rent" their house. They relocated to NC from Ohio. Where they purchased and rehabbed a house and then because my younger brother can't do anything on his own took him in AND his baby. So, the house was too small.. They decided to build a house on some property close by... So, in short they have 3 morgages. They tried to give us a "deal of a lifetime" for their home which we live in... However, it's NOT something we can readily afford at this time. Which we tried to tell them 2 yrs. ago. So, they want to put the house we rent on the market soon...

Here's the petty part. We pay rent, utilities and try to maintain the home as best we can.. However, certain things have happened beyond our control... When we moved in the house was infested with fleas. We got rid of them and took the supplies used off the rent ($50).... The basement flooded w/ sewage and we had to buy and clean-up * it was mostly THEIR things in storage.... I also did ALL the work in filing the claim for the insurance! They got 10k and I was reimbursed $1,500 MINUS the next months rent.... The sump pump needed to be fixed so we had a friend that 's master plumber fix the sump pump/switch for FREE.. AND he also snaked the drains and pressure treated them for FREE after the flood... This week.. Our furnace went out since my MIL works for a heating/cooling company she sent a tech of hers after hours to inspect/fix our furnace.. He didn't charge us! He's also ordering us a NEW pump AND coming over for a clean/check. he's not charging us... My husband deducted $35 for a bill that's for the house.. So, my parents called and want that money back ASAP.. I think they are being petty and childish..

I was thinking I should have any work that friends/family did to the house billed and receipted... So, they can see what we do for them to keep the costs down.. I'm pretty upset they are being so childish.... The work our friends did saved them about $500 or more dollars.... They should be more thankful and resonable... Sorry this is so long... I felt the need to provide details on the situation...
To help them out with my brothers child... I've sent them clothing my children have outgrown as well as money-saving coupons...

Until recently I was a SAHM and I have just returned to work part-time- so things up till this point have been stretched to the financial limits for us as well.. We like most were/are juggling bills and trying to keep afloat... We have had a terrible stretch of "bad luck" and have had to borrow money from my inlaws.. I just think my parents behavior is petty... They are angry that we can't afford their house and they made a "bad" decision in buying as well as building a NEW house.. So, they have 3 morgages...!
The house is in a nice and desireable area- our rent is very, very resonable.. As they set the rent.. However, we upkeep the large property and pay utilities. My step-dad is retired he gets an army pension AND retirement pay from his job he worked at for 30+ yrs. My mother works part-time and makes a comfortable living... My stepdad makes double what we make AND he gets FREE health insurance for he/mom.

I'm not so concerned that they are putting the house up for sale we can move I just wish they weren't being so petty. As we have saved their property from disaster on more than 1 occassion saving them 100's if NOT 1000's of dollars....
I also forgot to mention that my step-dad gets... Social Security, army pension AND retirement pay so even retired he makes DOUBLE what me/husband make.
I also forgot to mention that my brother left NC and moved back to OHIO he provides no support for his son.. My parents have consistantly "bailed" my brother out of jail and other offenses throughout his whole life- While they "browbeat" me over $35 ! LIke I mentioned.... I don't care if they want to sell the house.. It's their house- we can live elsewhere.... That's NOT the point. It's the pettiness of the situation...
Wow, this is getting long..... Anyway, my parents neighbors moved into a newer home and put their home up for sale on/off for the past 2 yrs. In that span of time... They have had a flood in the basement which ruined the furnace and hot water heater not to mention the drywall/carpet and furniture in the finished basement... They had a deer crash through the front window, AND to upkeep the lawn they pay $100 per month... Every month they have had to pay the entire morgage the taxes on the two properties.. Which is about $1,500 per month just on that prop. alone.... So, I get what poster #2 is saying.... Though, if we moved in the next couple months... My parents would be really singing the blues.. I just want them to be more appreciative of the efforts that we make to help them save money.... By fixing what we can ourselves for little to no money.

Question #6:

Do you think the government should help the financially floundering auto sector ?

I wonder why big business did not better manage their resources and permitted them self to get into this situation,Shouldn't someone in management have been monitoring the market and economy ? It seems to me that employees of the auto sector have also contributed to the situation by asking for and getting wages and benefits that surpass the average income. you would think it would be apparent to management and /or the union members that steadily increasing wages, benefits ,pensions and buy outs could not be sustained forever.I think a lot of people will suffer if the auto manufacturing jobs disappear but shouldn't someone have seen that that day could come?

Question #7:

Any tricks to make cutting skin off squash easier?

Dang, I almost cut my finger off trying to get the skin off a banana squash. Any tricks to make this process easier on any of the fall/winter squash that are in the markets now? ( I was cubing it to boil it)
I love to cook, Phat Woman..bring that hot mess son of your over for dinner tonight! ;O)

Question #8:

Why are Reserve Bank Governors blind to collapsing global economy?

Only now they think it will be a recession, I could of told them that 6 months ago. The thing is they all act dumb, the World economy is going to implode but they cannot see it until it hits them in the face.
Time to stay clear of a crashing stock market, and buy as much Gold as you can as paper money will be like that of Zimbabwe.

Question #9:

SRAM Rival VS. Shimano 105?

Which is a better choice? I already read numerous horror stories about the Rival having clunky shifting no matter how much you tune them and the problems with the front derailleur. They are both in the same market so I was wondering which is better? Shimano derailleurs and shifters have a reputation for being the smoothest and the most precise. Would SRAM Rival be better or perhaps equal? Considering the lowest budget components possible without sacrificing smoothness and precision shifting.

Question #10:

Question about playing the stock market?

Can you loose more money then already invested. For example, say you invested 100.00 dollars into a stock that plummets, can you loose more than the 100.00 already in there?
sorry, lose not loose

Question #11:

is it really sensible to leave decarbonisation to the 'free market'?

especially now we have seen what a hash has been made of the banking system under this regime. cap and trade will have to be highly regulated to work at all, and will always be at the mercy of fluctuating carbon prices.
wouldnt it be much simpler and more effective to have a world wide per capita carbon allowance; tradeable, and reducing year on year?
"do i understand the black market?" good grief, how patronizing. and wrong. in my extensive experience, the black market thrives in times of lax regulation, one of the few perks for us poor people in times of right wing fat cat madness.
dana, good point about the auto industry. its not that simple is it; gov. intervention or 'interference' takes many forms; not passing laws, giving or not giving tax breaks, secret deals with industrialists, even public information all affect society. i say lets have it as above board and transparent as we can, and if some right wingers squeal about 'nanny state', we can point to many interventions their govs have made, from maggie selling off our oil to the obscene un-level playing fields created by farming subsidies and oil producer tax breaks.

Question #12:

What can Obama do about this?

The US has all but lost the great Oil Wars of the past century:
Saudi Arabia now considers China an equal (or perhaps now a superior) customer to the US, and most of the oil in the rest of the world - other than the small amount left in Canada and Mexico - is now controlled by the China/Russia/Iran/Venezuela alliance.

The Iraq war most certainly cost more money than America will ever get out of Iraq. Not to mention the Trillions in debt that have been amassed.

The American economy not only crashed, but lost it's international reputation of having the one truly open and reliable stock market. Unfortunately, American governments have blatantly ignored manufacturing and agricultural industries, so finance basically represents the whole American economy nowadays.

The countries that were allies 30 years ago (Iran, many South American countries, the Arab countries) now consider America an enemy.

Dictators of pathetic 3rd world regimes (Hugo Chavez being the most obvious) have allied with each other to form an anti-American coalition.
America's incompetence during the Iraq occupation has erased much of the influence she had as a military superpower.

Can any president undo the incredible damage that has been done over the last 8 years? Or will America become the next England - a former great empire that still is one of the top 12 influences in the world?
Alternative energy may be the only savior. But they haven't come up with an alternative energy that is better than oil yet. Only a superior energy source will make America prosper - like the way oil replaced coal.
Dcntamcn - I'm sorry, I didn't realize how great things were going for America. Good thing America has more oil than the rest of the world combined, I can't wait until they reveal this great revelation to the world! Or perhaps they have a 3 month supply like oil industry experts have estimated and it is hardly worth spending the money to drill until oil has reached $200/barrel.
I don't pay attention to Michael Moore. My facts come from economists and Bush administration officials themselves! Oh sure, the Iraq war was about spreading democracy. Then I suppose Bush's own staff must be wrong:

Question #14:

Should the executives of the "Big three" be whipped before they get a bailout?

Along with the banking executives.

GM Especially was told to clean up its act 10 years ago, they still continued to produce useless vehicles, probably the most inefficient in the world, yet americans still continued to buy them. Not anymore.

Should we implement new rules for markets, so a company can never be considered "too big to fail", such as a company should not have more that 15% of a market etc.

What happened to the free markets? If you make bad business decisions you should fail, just like small businesses do. And there is no doubt these big three made very poor decisions.

Question #15:

Help, I am madly in love but don't know what to do?

Alright, so my girlfriend and I are madly in love with eacother. We have been together for quite some time now, but three months ago she moved away to college while I still go to college back here at home. Our relationship when we're together is amazing, we are nothing short of Romeo and Juliet. But when we're apart, she is happy, and I am an absolute wreck, I'm never happy. She hates being away as well, but still seems to move right along with her life day after day. I on the otherhand, can barely even function. I love her so much, and she's my everything. She wants to stay away at school however because she wants to avoid her parents and meet new friends. There's a college back here at home that is 9,000 dollars a year with a better nursing program. She goes to school an hour from that school where it's 32,000 dollars a year. She really just wants to stay away from family etc. She keeps trying to press me to move to where she goes to school, but with the current student loan market I cannot get a loan, nor can I afford an apartment. I would never ask her to move back here, nor would I try to take her away from where she wants to be. What do I do? I'm so depressed unless we're together, along with that my friends all transferred to different colleges while I'm still here.. I'm never happy, but she seems to be most of the time. She could easily move here, but I would never ask that because she doesn't want to. What do I do? Is this amazing relationship together unhealthy because of all the horrible time I am having when we're apart?

Question #16:

FACIAL MACHINE HELP!?

Okay, I am needing to purchase facial equipment for my facial room, but I run into a snag here. I know the basics of what is good and bad...you know...CHI is the best flat iron you can get, Matrix is some of the best haircolor you can get, but I need some help. I need to know the best brand facial equipment on the market. I need to know a brand that is extremely good quality and will hold up for some time and not just a few days. I made that mistake by ordering one off of ebay for a good price and several things on it already broke! Grrrrr. Any help would be appreciated.

Question #17:

Universal health care in America?

Universal health care is very possibly the worst idea ever conceived of. The socialists always glorify this, much to the dismay of rational people that believe in common sense. However, since there will always be socialists, there will eventually be universally socialized medicine as well. While we cannot completely stop them, we must slow the advance of the socialists for the good of the country.

Socialists often claim that socialized medicine is better for the citizens of the country; this is clearly false, because socialized systems never, EVER function efficiently at all. With this logical train wreck of the socialists exposed, it is clear that socialized medicine will never be good.

For another dis-proof of socialized medicine, listen to Rush Limbaugh's radio broadcast from a few years back. Limbaugh says that health care professionals KNOW that socialized medicine is a bad idea; the recording also reveals that the health care professionals were indeed telling the truth in the survey, and must have been right. Therefore socialized medicine is wrong.

Remember when Clinton criticized Obama's health care plan for forcing people to buy health insurance, whether they wanted it or not? Let's say that, since everyone is required to get health insurance, that 30% of them make under $15,000/year. If they're forced to pay for some of it, many of them wouldn't have the money. 30% of the people would be unable to pay for the additional costs forced onto them by the socialists! Socialized medicine is insane; the socialists, rather than HELPING the little man, will be HURTING the little man.

Universal health care is not the only answer, nor the best answer to the millions of people that don't have health insurance. It's very easy to fix, after all; if they would only spend their money to get health insurance, the problem would be solved! It's a remarkably easy alternative to socialism, one that's a lot better! After all, we NEED to make sure that everyone has health insurance; everyone would have health insurance if they simply paid for it themselves. It would be the economically rational thing to do. Therefore, everyone MUST necessarily buy health insurance themselves.

There are two options here: first, we can socialize our entire health care industry, make everything dependent on the government and on bureaucracy, and watch as the nation begins to fall apart. Or, we could leave it up to the market, which is most efficient and best for everyone. Which do you choose? The working system or the non-working system?

Socialism is bad for everyone, including the people in charge. Obama won some 53% of the vote, while McCain won some 46% of the vote. To be just and fair, should Obama be allowed to pursue his policies to the detriment of the other 46% of the people? Is this state of affairs good? The answer is clear. Obama and the other proponents of universal health care, as well as universal health care itself, are flawed.

Another argument against socialized health care is that it is not natural. If it is not natural, why would it be good? Didn't we learn in history class that humans have survived for thousands of years without socialized health care?

Some of the socialists believe that universal health insurance is good because it provides for the people. But does it really? What about the homeless man on the corner who isn't in the government's database and consequently is not able to get health care? The socialists' solution is nowhere close to perfect, and should obviously therefore not even be attempted.

An unanswerable argument to the socialists is that they cannot prove that the doctors will perform better under a social health system. What does this mean? The doctors will perform worse, and health care for all will be worse. Is that really what we want for our great nation?

But let's address the root cause of these issues: socialism. Socialism is intrinsically linked to its eventual successor, the great evil of communism. If we start down the path of socialized medicine, it will be forever ingrained into our culture, and we will have no way out of it; we will have taken a permanent step down the road to communism. If you prefer a free democracy to communism, you will prefer not to have socialized medicine.

So, to conclude, what can we conclude about socialized medicine, in light of all of this evidence and hard reasoning? What do you think?
